Two doctoral dissertations by SLICE members have been successfully defended in Vilnius, Lithuania, during the course of 2019
Ramunė Čičirkaitė has completed an experimental study on the social meanings of Vilnius' urban speech variation and further explored the influence of Vilnius speech on the de facto norm of Lithuanian broadcast media in the period of 1960 to 2010. Her dissertation was written in Lithuanian, but a summary in English is available. [The summary in English comes at the end of the attached file].
Vuk Vukotic - a future member of the SLICE network - has defended his comparative study of language ideologies of online commentaries, language experts and official policies in three regions. The dissertation is titled "Language serves the people, not the other way around! Ideologies of language in Lithuania, Norway, Serbia and the Baltic, Scandinavian and Ex-Yugoslav regions. A typological perspective on metalinguistic media discourses and language policies".
