Dear SLICE friends

As a first sign that we are recovering from the HERA knockout, I recently received proposals that we look into whether the ‘European Community Marie Curie actions’ might be a possibility for us. At the LANCHART centre in Copenhagen we have already for many months had an initiative running in the Marie Curie direction. A few of you will have heard about it before, but the fact that I have not thought of informing broadly about this before is the best of evidence that I deepest down was more than cautiously optimistic of a positive HERA outcome. I reproduce here a letter of invitation to join in on the LANCHART initiative (signed by LANCHART center leader Frans Gregersen and research administrator Lin Solvang). As the initiative was launched months ago, you will find that the deadline for replying is tomorrow, May 1. As I know you all are hard-working people and therefore maybe celebrate Mat 1 by not working, I am sure Lin will accept to receive any message of interest during next week. The workshop in question takes place in Copenhagen May 13-15.

Best wishes

Tore

Dear SLICERS

Tore has asked me to mail you this information that The LANCHART centre have sent out for some international scholars in our network asking them to write an application in close collaboration with us as a host institution for the Marie Curie action later this year. It would be great to have some participants from the SLICE network taking part in our workshop. Below is a text that can be used for inviting the scholars. And the program is attached.

Best regards,

Lin Solvang

INVITATION

Dear ...

I am writing to you about The LANCHART Centre’s Marie Curie initiative for 2013. We would very much like to invite you to take part in it.

We have for some time now wanted to attract excellent international scholars to longer lasting stays at our centre and we have decided that the European Community Marie Curie actions might be helpful in this respect. Our hope is that you will consider the possibility of a 2 years long research stay in Copenhagen starting in 2014.

The Marie Curie action that we believe will be of interest to us is the IEF – Intra-European Fellowships for Career Development. The deadline is August 14th 2013 with project start approximately 6 months later. You can read about it here: http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/about-mca/actions/ief/index_en.htm

The focus of the Marie Curie action IEF is to give researchers different and/or complementary research competences at an advanced level, in the process of reaching or reinforcing a position of professional maturity. You will need a PhD degree or the equivalent of this (4 years full time work as a researcher).

The central idea of the invitation is to assist you  in writing an application for the Marie Curie call in close collaboration with relevant colleagues at the centre. The University of Copenhagen will be the host institution for the whole period, but shorter exchange possibilities at other European institutions, could very well be a part of the plan for the research period.

We hereby invite you to come to Copenhagen to take part in a three day workshop together with centre staff and Marie Curie experts with the purpose of kicking off the writing process to a head start. Your trip, meals specified in the program, and accommodation will be at our expense. We ask you to indicate in a letter addressed to Lin Solvang whether you would accept the invitation or not, preferably as soon as possible but at any rate no later than May 1st. If you accept the invitation we will ask you to write a short project proposal at max 2 pages before arrival in order for us to plan the writing activity while you are here in Copenhagen.

Best regards,
Frans Gregersen
Centre leader
and
Lin Solvang
Research administrator

Sorry for cross-posting.

Some of you SLICE’rs might be interested in the upcoming conference organized by the Copenhagen SLICE partner, LARM. Especially the panel on Challenging the homogeneity of ’media language’ may be relevant to you.

I hope to see you in Copenhagen in the fall.
