has accepted an 8 months post.doc. position at LANCHART, starting September 1, with the task of carrying out SLICE Experimental studies in the UK. 

 

2. Christoph Purschke and Ursula Ritzau

participated in a Marie Skłodowska-Curie master class in Copenhagen this week with the intention of submitting applications for SLICE-type investigations in Austria and Schwitzerland, respectively.

 

3. Michael Hornsby

sends a call for paper (see below), as he co-convenes a panel on the theme Ideologies and New Speakers of Minority Languages at the New Speakers in a Multilingual Europe:  Opportunities and Challenges symposium in Barcelona, November 20-22, 2014

Ideologies and New Speakers of Minority Languages

Panel convenors: Cassie Smith-Christmas & Michael Hornsby

We invite abstracts for a panel of on the topic of ideologies and new speakers of minority languages.  Paper presentations should be 20 minutes in length and will be presented as part of a four-hour panel at the New Speakers in a Multilingual Europe:  Opportunities and Challenges Symposium in Barcelona, November 20-22, 2014.  Papers may address any aspect of the broad theme of ideologies and new speakers; for example, what role do ideologies play in trajectories of becoming a ‘new’ speaker of a minority language?  What types of ideologies are typically found in minority language communities and what are their implications for new speakers? Further, as becoming a new speaker of a minority language usually involves in participation in language maintenance efforts, how do language ideologies contribute to or impede new speakers’ potential for enacting language maintenance within their families and communities? What language ideologies are implicit in macro- and meso-level language policies and what is their impact on new speakers at the micro-level of interaction?

Please submit abstracts using the process outlined in the General Call for Papers, but please include ‘Ideologies and New Speakers of Minority Languages’ as the heading of your e-mail used to submit the abstract. E-mail: newspeakers2014@uoc.edu.
